How to calculate an exact calendar age

Your age in years is the number of birthdays you have completed. A more detailed calendar age adds completed months and the days left after them. This calculator provides both that breakdown and the total calendar days since the birth date, so you can answer questions about a birthday, a family milestone, or an age on a particular date.

  1. Enter the date of birth

    Use the full recorded date, including the year. The tool needs a valid calendar date rather than an estimated birth year.

  2. Choose the comparison date

    Leave the comparison date at today, or change it to a past or future date. It must not be earlier than the birth date.

  3. Calculate and read both lines

    The main result shows years and months. The detail adds remaining days and the total day count.

What the result means

Someone born on 15 June 2000 is 25 years, 2 months, and 5 days old on 20 August 2025. They completed 25 years on 15 June, another two calendar months on 15 August, and five further days by the comparison date. Those months are calendar months with their real lengths, not a fixed number of thirty-day periods.

Birthdays at the end of a month

Some months cannot contain the same day number as the birth date. When an anniversary would fall beyond the end of a month, this calculator uses the last available day. For a 29 February birthday, the anniversary in a common year is clamped to 28 February. This gives the calculation a consistent rule across unequal months and leap years.

That convention is a calculation choice. Rules for legal age, eligibility, school admission, or an insurance policy may differ, particularly for leap-day birthdays. Use the comparison date and anniversary rule required by the relevant organisation when checking an official threshold.

Why dividing by 365 gives a different answer

A calendar age follows actual anniversaries. Dividing total days by 365 treats every year as the same length and gradually loses the effect of leap days. Dividing by an average year length can estimate age, but it does not tell you whether a specific birthday has happened yet. The separate total-day figure is useful when you need a running day count instead of completed years.

Using an age on a future date

Change the comparison date to an event, application date, or anniversary to see the age on that day.
