Find which weekday a date falls on

This calculator turns a calendar date into Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. Use it to check a birthday, place a family event on a weekly calendar, or see whether an anniversary falls on a weekend. You only need the full date; no time of day is required.

Examples from a familiar calendar

Moving forward seven calendar days always returns to the same weekday. Moving forward one calendar year does not. A common year contains fifty-two weeks and one extra day, while a leap year contains fifty-two weeks and two extra days. That leftover portion is why annual events usually move to a different weekday each year.

Checking the weekday you were born

Use the local date recorded for the birthplace. A birth close to midnight may have happened on a different calendar date in another country, but the ordinary question about a birth weekday normally refers to the recorded local date. The tool does not convert a birth time between zones. If two records disagree, check the place and recorded date before assuming the weekday calculation is wrong.

Looking back into history

The calculator applies Gregorian calendar rules to every supported date, including dates before a region adopted that calendar. Historical records may instead use the Julian calendar or another local system. Entering the written numbers from such a record without converting the calendar can produce a weekday that does not match what people recorded at the time.

Planning around the result

A weekday name alone does not tell you whether an office is open or whether the date is a public holiday. Check local opening times separately. To count the weekdays in a wider interval, use business days. To find the date two weeks before an event, use add or subtract days, which also displays the result’s weekday.
